Bill Belichick has big praise for Cowboys’ front office, player development, kicking game

The Cowboys put together an impressive win in Cleveland in their season opener on Sunday, a 33-17 victory that wasn’t really as close as the score made it seem.

Among those most impressed? Count six-time Super Bowl champion and former head coach Bill Belichick in that group.

In his most recent “Coach” podcast with Matt Patricia and Michael Lombardi, Belichick had praise for virtually every aspect of the Cowboys’ first win of the season, from their ability to play with the lead, to performances from Brandon Aubrey and DeMarvion Overshown, among others, to the successes in player development the front office has overseen in recent seasons.

See all the glowing reviews from Belichick below.

Belichick: “Nobody’s better at playing ahead than Dallas is. They can control the ball offensively, and they can play from ahead on defense with their pass rush and their coverage players. That really plays into their hands, we’ll see what happens when they get into a tighter game, maybe they have to play from behind.”

Belichick: “I think you gotta give Dallas’ personnel department, Stephen Jones, a lot of credit. Look, the only way that you can afford CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott, some of their other high-priced players, is you gotta find good players that don’t cost too much.”

Cowboys have signed two stars to big-money contracts. Micah Parsons is next in line

Belichick: “They’ve [found good, inexpensive players] with their kicker, [Brandon] Aubrey, they’ve done it with their returner, [KaVontae] Turpin, those two guys are two of the best guys in the league, didn’t cost anything.

Belichick: “Another thing [the Cowboys] got this year was like another free draft choice. Overshown had 11 tackles in the game, he didn’t even play last year because he tore his ACL. So he came back for his second year without playing a snap last year and led the team in tackles against the Browns. Really a great job by Dallas of finding those players to come in and supplement the high-priced players so they can have a solid team all the way around.”
