The Dallas Cowboys were utterly embarrassed by the Detroit Lions Week 6 in an astounding 47-9 loss, which was just the latest in a long line of disappointments against legitimate contenders. This disturbing trend is the exact reason many wanted head coach Mike McCarthy gone this offseason, as his teams regularly shrink against top competition.

Following another similar defeat, fans once again are calling for McCarthy to be ousted. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addressed those concerns following Sunday’s game.

Jones was asked directly in his postgame press conference if he was weighing a coaching change as Dallas heads into its bye. He denied any such thinking, stating, “I’m not considering that.”

Of course, those in Big D aren’t surprised, but they sure are disappointed. Jones’ genuine apathy when it comes to the success of his team is downright shocking from the once-proud owner, who seems more interested in good business than playing winning football these days.

Firing McCarthy is far from the only change the Cowboys need, but it’d be a good place to start. He has exhausted the number of reasonable excuses during his tenure, and even though players do seem to like him, it hasn’t translated to them fighting for him on the field.

Although Dallas is only 3-3 heading into its bye, it’s obvious this squad is already a dead man walking. The lack of playoff success over the past several years, coupled with poor performance and coaching in 2024, leaves this team in need of an entire teardown.
