The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Detroit Tigers in game 5 of the American League Division Series to advance to the American League Championship Series.
Monday will mark game 1 of the series as the American League Central champion Guardians will take on the American League East champion New York Yankees.
Most people are aware of the Yankees star players Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, but the Guardians have a superstar of their own that gets less attention.
Yankees Manager Aaron Boone disagrees that Jose Ramirez is underrated and underappreciated, however.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Boone said “He’s a great on-track Hall of Fame player, and everybody knows it, including everyone sitting out here.
Ramirez came into the league with the then-Cleveland Indians in 2013, and he has been with the team ever since.
He had another great regular season for the Guardians in 2024 where he batted .279 with 39 home runs, 118 runs batted in, and a .872 on-base plus slugging percentage.
His first series in the 2024 playoffs wasn’t great however as he had 3 hits in 16 at-bats with 1 home run, 3 runs batted in, and a .788 on-base plus slugging percentage.
Boone describes being sick of hearing baseball analysts say that Ramirez is underrated, and he mentions that the Yankees are aware of how good he is.
The Yankees will possibly take caution when pitching to Ramirez in the ALCS as he is the clear player in the Guardians lineup that can do the most damage.
Ramirez will look to get his postseason back on track as game 1 of the ALCS begins on Monday.
