Stephen Jones on confidence in Mike Zimmer, Jake Ferguson’s status for Week 3 vs. Ravens

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones joined the K&C Masterpiece to react to the team’s disappointing loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at AT&T Stadium.

Here are some of the highlights:

On the team’s message to the fans:

“I think at the end of the day, this is the NFL. We’ve all had these days. [We] certainly didn’t see it coming – very disappointing. But at the same time, we got a lot of confidence in this team. We got a lot of confidence in coach (Mike) Zimmer. Obviously, that was a tough outing yesterday for the defense in terms of how the Saints executed. Hats off to them. The younger (Saints OC Klint) Kubiak did a real, nice job. They executed and were pretty much flawless on their first six possessions. Those are things we got to tighten up. I’m confident we’ll get the job done. Mike’s been in this league a long time. I’m very confident in this football team, our personnel. We’ll get out here and correct things, make the adjustments we need to make, and move forward.

On why he’s confident in Zimmer fixing the defense:

“He knows this game well. He’s been a very successful coordinator, a very successful head coach. Have all the confidence in the world that he’s gonna put these guys in the right spot. He did a great job the first week. We just came up against a Saints team that’s hot.”

Do you think Jake Ferguson will be ready to go in Week 3?

“Absolutely. As you said, he’s a tough guy. He was really close to being able to play in that game. I thought (Luke) Schoonmaker did a real, nice job filling in for Ferguson. But we want Ferguson back. He’s a part of the DNA of this football team. The expectation is for him to be back.”
