The Miami Heat announced Thursday evening that they have signed center Warren Washington while waiving guard Caleb Daniels, swapping Exhibit 10 contracts.
According to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, both Daniels and Washington are expected to suit up for the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Heat’s G-League affiliate.
Washington, 24, was one of three bigs on the Heat’s Summer League roster–the other two being first-round pick Kel’el Ware plus Neal Sako. Washington averaged 2.3 points and 2.2 rebounds in six Summer League games with the Heat, totaling 51 minutes. He made seven of his 17 field goal attempts and corralled seven offensive rebounds.
Washington played five collegiate seasons with four programs–Oregon State, Nevada, Arizona State and Texas Tech. The undrafted big man averaged 9.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 25 games (24 starts) with the Red Raiders last year, though missed eight of his team’s final 10 games with a foot injury.
Daniels, meanwhile, will be entering his second year in the Heat system. He recorded eight points and nine rebounds across 17 minutes in his preseason debut Tuesday. Last year with Sioux Falls, he averaged 12.3 points and 5.0 rebounds on 42.8 percent shooting and 36.8 percent shooting from 3-point range.
Washington will be the fifth center in the Heat system–which could be extra insurance in the frontcourt since they play four games in six nights next week after tonight’s game was postponed due to Hurricane Milton. They remain at the 21-player preseason max, though that will be trimmed down to 18 (15 standard, three two-way) by the start of the regular season.
