𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: Major NFL Trade Pitch Sends 9-Time Pro Bowl QB to Dolphins Amid Tua Tagovailoa Injury

The Miami Dolphins have found themselves in a hole that may take a new quarterback to get out of to start the 2024 NFL season.

Ever since quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was sent to the injured reserve following his third career concussion in Week 2, the Dolphins offense hasn’t looked great.

Backup Skylar Thompson initially replaced Tagovailoa as the starter before suffering his own injury. After that, the newly acquired Tyler Huntley took over the starting quarterback position. But both Thompson and Huntley have had underwhelming performances, failing to get the ball into the endzone through the air over the last three contests.

However, there may be a perfect quarterback for Miami that could find themselves available in the near future, according to former Minnesota Vikings GM and the 33rd Team’s Jeff Diamond.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson, who signed a one-year, $1.2M contract over the offseason, lost his starting role to Justin Fields after suffering a calf injury during training camp. With the small investment Pittsburgh made in the former Super Bowl-winning quarterback, Diamond believes it wouldn’t take much for Miami to acquire him via trade.

“If the Steelers can get a later-round draft pick for a player they invested so little in, I think they’ll jump on it,” Diamond wrote. “Miami is the most likely destination, considering Tagovailoa’s tenuous situation, and Wilson is a clear upgrade over Tyler Huntley or Skylar Thompson.”

Wilson played ten seasons with the Seattle Seahawks from 2012-2021. Along the way, the former Wisconsin Badgers standout was named to nine Pro Bowls and one All-Pro team.

Following a poor first season with the Denver Broncos in 2022, the 35-year-old Wilson proved he could still lead a team in 2023. Despite Denver’s 8-9 record last year, Wilson still managed 3,070 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and just eight interceptions over 15 games played.

With Fields under center, the Steelers started off strong with a 3-0 record. But, over the past couple of weeks, Pittsburgh has dropped its previous two games, falling to 3-2 on the season. If the former Chicago Bear can get back to playing how he was in Weeks 1-3, where he recorded four passing touchdowns and three on the ground, Wilson could certainly find himself out of Pennsylvania soon.
