And in this case, it\u2019s a little of both.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Cardinals dialed up the defensive call that clinched the win with 70 seconds remaining in the game.<\/p>\n<p>Purdy was a split-second slow in recognizing the pressure and dumping it off to tight end George Kittle over the middle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey had a blitz,\u201d Shanahan said Monday morning on a conference call with Bay Area reporters. \u201cWhen two guys blitz the back, that means you\u2019re hot. And we just got to get rid of the ball quicker.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Cardinals picked an opportune time to call for an overload blitz in which they brought four pass rushers over the right side of the 49ers\u2019 offensive line.<\/p>\n<p>Right guard Dominick Puni blocked defensive tackle L.J. Collier, who lined up over him. Right tackle Colton McKitvitz was in charge of edge rusher Julian Okwara.<\/p>\n<p>That left 49ers running back Jordan Mason against linebacker Krys Barnes\u00a0<em>and<\/em>\u00a0safety Jalen Thompson.<\/p>\n<p>Mason picked up the inside rusher, Barnes, while Thompson timed it up to blast through the line and hit Purdy as he was throwing.<\/p>\n<p>The pass fluttered in the air, allowing Arizona linebacker Kyzir White to make the sprawling interception to end the game.<\/p>\n<p>The 49ers\u00a0held a 23-10 lead\u00a0at halftime. But in four second-half possessions, Purdy threw two interceptions, Mason lost a fumble and the 49ers turned it over on downs \u2014 going for it on fourth-and-23 from the Cardinals\u2019 27-yard line.<\/p>\n<p>The potential field goal was about 10 yards outside the range of punter Mitch Wishnowsky, who was forced to kick after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportsbayarea.com\/nfl\/san-francisco-49ers\/jake-moody-injury-loss-cardinals\/1790347\/\">Jake Moody left the game<\/a>\u00a0with a high ankle sprain.<\/p>\n<p>The 49ers blew double-digit leads in the second halves of their losses to the Los Angeles Rams and Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought this one was worse than the Rams one, in terms of we got sloppier in terms of our turnovers and things like that, not scoring in the second half,\u201d Shanahan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you have a lead on people you need to finish them. The way you finish people is you continue to score.
