Watt responded to the defense missing an opportunity to recover a late fumble in the loss against the Dallas Cowboys.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The\u00a0Pittsburgh Steelers\u00a0defense was pinned inside its own 1-yard line holding a 4-point lead during the final minute of regulation when linebacker\u00a0Elandon Roberts\u00a0came flying over the line of scrimmage on second down. Roberts stopped\u00a0Dallas Cowboys\u00a0running back\u00a0Rico Dowdle\u00a0dead in his tracks and jarred the ball loose.<\/p>\n<p>Suddenly, the Steelers had an opportunity to secure victory with a fourth takeaway. But Cowboys quarterback\u00a0Dak Prescott\u00a0recovered the loose ball.<\/p>\n<p>Although the play resulted in a 3-yard loss, Prescott found\u00a0Jalen Tolbert in the end zone for the game-winning touchdown two plays later.<\/p>\n<p>Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin lamented over the inability of his defense to recover Dowdle\u2019s fumble in the final minute of the fourth quarter. Steelers edge rusher\u00a0T.J. Watt, though, didn\u2019t play the what-if game as much as his head coach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese games are so close. It can be one play here or there, but obviously there\u2019s a collection of work, a whole body of work that we\u2019re going to have to go back and look at,\u201d\u00a0Watt told reporters after the loss. \u201cIt didn\u2019t come down to just one play tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"ql-video\" src=\"https:\/\/video.twimg.com\/amplify_video\/1843160147230683137\/vid\/avc1\/1280x720\/_T8NuiS3w70iFiyc.mp4?tag=16\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The collection of work from the Steelers defense was some good, some bad in Week 5 versus Dallas. Pittsburgh forced 3 takeaways and allowed the Cowboys to only score 1 touchdown on 4 red zone possessions.<\/p>\n<p>But the Cowboys also posted 445 yards and converted 9 of 15 third-down attempts.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Steelers Just Miss Making Another Huge Defensive Stop<\/h2>\n<p>Pittsburgh\u2019s defense looked more like last year\u2019s unit on October 6 than the defense the team had in its first three games this season. The Cowboys were moving the ball, but the Steelers were preventing Dallas from scoring.<\/p>\n<p>The Steelers had two takeaways in the red zone during the first half to keep the team within a field goal at halftime. Then in the third quarter, Pittsburgh blocked a Dallas field goal attempt.<\/p>\n<p>Had the Steelers been able to recover Roberts\u2019 forced fumble, the team\u2019s third red zone takeaway would have sealed the victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a fine line between drinking wine and smashing grapes in our business. That\u2019s an example of it,\u201d\u00a0head coach Mike Tomlin said. \u201cThat ball is on the ground right there in the red area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd that\u2019s the difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Depending on which perspective one prefers, both Watt and Tomlin are correct. A play or two can change the outcome of an NFL game, which completely alters the narratives that form around players and coaches.<\/p>\n<p>But regardless of whether or not the Steelers recovered Roberts\u2019 forced fumble, one could argue the team didn\u2019t play well enough to beat the Cowboys.<\/p>\n<p>Dallas nearly doubled Pittsburgh\u2019s yardage output 445-226. The Cowboys had 202 more passing yards than the Steelers.<\/p>\n<p>The Cowboys also had three times as many third-down conversions (9 versus 3).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Steelers\u2019 T.J. Watt Makes History versus Cowboys<\/h2>\n<p>Watt couldn\u2019t quite make the big impactful play for the Steelers defense on the final drive. But without Watt, the Steelers don\u2019t have a chance to win while registering 219 fewer yards than the Cowboys did.<\/p>\n<p>Watt\u2019s first sack of the game resulted in a forced fumble, which was Pittsburgh\u2019s first red zone takeaway. It also gave 100 sacks in his career.<\/p>\n<p>Not only did Watt move into the exclusive 100-sack club,\u00a0he became\u00a0the second-fastest player ever to reach the milestone.<\/p>\n<p>He finished the night with 1.5 sacks, 1 tackle for loss, 3 quarterback hits and 8 total tackles, including 7 solos.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"ql-video\" src=\"https:\/\/video.twimg.com\/amplify_video\/1843116076890238976\/vid\/avc1\/1920x1080\/-pXPONWAjxeVRqlV.mp4?tag=16\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Watt, though, wasn\u2019t in much of a mood after the game to talk about his individual achievement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEspecially this year, it\u2019s not about individual accolades,\u201d\u00a0Watt said. \u201cIt\u2019s all about wanting to win.
