But the strategy didn\u2019t last long.<\/p>\n<p>After Fautanu played the first two series against the\u00a0Denver Broncos, Jones entered the game on Pittsburgh\u2019s third offensive drive. However, the Steelers removed Jones before the end of the possession after he committed two holding penalties and a false start.<\/p>\n<p>Fautanu then played the rest of the game at right tackle.<\/p>\n<p>After the contest, a reporter asked Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin whether Jones didn\u2019t play another offensive snap because of the three penalties.\u00a0Tomlin kept his response very short but anwered the question.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Coach Mike Tomlin Postgame Press Conference (Week 2 at Broncos) | Pittsburgh Steelers\" width=\"790\" height=\"444\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8y6UptWxvfU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou got it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jones committed his three penalties in the span of only 12 snaps. The Steelers overcame his false start on third-and-six, converting a third-and-11 opportunity. But Jones\u2019 holding penalties after the first down forced the Steelers to punt.<\/p>\n<p>His second holding penalty nullified a\u00a0Justin Fields\u00a051-yard pass to receiver\u00a0George Pickens.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Broderick Jones Struggles in Rotational Role<\/h2>\n<p>With\u00a0Fautanu sidelined with a knee injury\u00a0during Week 1, Jones started at right tackle against the\u00a0Atlanta Falcons. But Fautanu was ready to make his NFL regular season debut on September 15.<\/p>\n<p>Jones and Fautanu are Pittsburgh\u2019s last two first-round draft picks. With that in mind, the team\u2019s long-term plans must include both tackles in the starting lineup. More than likely, Jones\u2019 future is at left tackle.<\/p>\n<p>But with the Steelers more comfortable with veteran\u00a0Dan Moore Jr.\u00a0remaining the starter at left tackle right now, the team elected to start Fautanu at right tackle and rotate Jones in against the Broncos.<\/p>\n<p>Fautanu fared well to start the game. But the plan backfired when Jones entered at right tackle.<\/p>\n<p>After overcoming Jones\u2019 false start, the Steelers drove into Broncos territory. On their previous offensive possession, they scored a touchdown, and with kicker\u00a0Chris Boswell\u2019s leg, the Steelers were roughly 10 yards away from field-goal range.<\/p>\n<p>At the very least, Pittsburgh was looking at extending its lead to two possessions.<\/p>\n<p>But Jones\u2019 two holding penalties in the span of three snaps pushed the Steelers back to their own 33-yard line.\u00a0They punted\u00a0from their 49-yard line on fourth-and-12.<\/p>\n<p>After Fautanu returned, the Steelers did eventually extend their lead to two possessions before halftime. But Pittsburgh\u2019s offense never really found consistent rhythm again after Jones\u2019 holding penalties.<\/p>\n<p>Even with Jones on the bench, the Steelers racked up 10 fouls for 78 yards in the 13-6 victory versus the Broncos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first thing that captured my attention was the penalties,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8y6UptWxvfU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">Tomlin said in his postgame press conference<\/a>. \u201cYou can\u2019t produce or sustain drives being penalized the way that we were.
