The\u00a0San Francisco 49ers\u00a0have been linked to a blockbuster trade move for\u00a0Las Vegas Raiders\u00a0WR Davante Adams. However, the possibility of it happening seems unlikely, according to NBC Sports\u2019 Matt Maiocco.<\/p>\n
Maiocco shot down the idea on the October 2 episode of \u201c49ers Now.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t see any reason or possibility that the Raiders would consider trading him to the 49ers,\u201d\u00a0Maiocco said. \u201cOr that the 49ers would be willing to give up what it would take to get\u00a0Davante Adams. \u2026 There\u2019s no way the 49ers are going to pull the plug on\u00a0Brandon Aiyuk after four games and then it would cost a lot more money on the salary cap for the 49ers to make that trade.\u201d<\/p>\n
In an October 2 story, the San Francisco Chronicle\u2019s\u00a0Mike Silver had\u00a0suggested the 49ers send the 26-year-old All-Pro Aiyuk, whom the team signed to four-year, $120 million extension in August, to the Raiders in exchange for Adams, who asked the team to be traded,\u00a0according to multiple reports.<\/p>\n
Adams has been one of the NFL\u2019s top receivers for a decade but will turn 32 later this year. Aiyuk has had a slow start to the 2024 season, but bailing on him after a slow stretch for an aging legend doesn\u2019t add up.<\/p>\n
Aiyuk Looking for Spark After Big Contract<\/h2>\n
The\u00a049ers and Aiyuk\u2019s stalemate\u00a0over his recent contract extension was one of the NFL\u2019s top stories of the offseason. The former Arizona State star missed the majority of the team\u2019s preseason activities due to the holdout before receiving the\u00a0$120 million contract.<\/p>\n
Aiyuk has not matched his production from last year. Through four games, Aiyuk has 13 catches for 167 yards and zero touchdowns. He also has\u00a0two drops, matching the total drops he had in all of 2023.<\/p>\n

NBC Sports\u2019 Taylor Wirth attributed the lack of production to his sitting out the preseason.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany point to Aiyuk\u2019s training camp hold-in and the lack of reps with quarterback Brock Purdy and the first-team offense as the primary reason why,\u201d\u00a0Wirth wrote\u00a0on September 26, referencing comments made a day earlier by 49ers legend Steve Young.<\/p>\n
\u201cBrandon needs to own it,\u201d\u00a0Young said\u00a0on the September 25 episode of KNBR\u2019s \u201cTolbert & Copes.\u201d \u201cLike, I\u2019ve come back. I\u2019ve missed camp, and now it\u2019s not happening. So I have to take that on myself. There\u2019s no blame other than yourself. Own it. It\u2019s me. I will fix this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aiyuk still clearly has his skills. His 10-yard grab against the\u00a0New England Patriots\u00a0in Week 4 was\u00a0truly exceptional\u00a0and could signal a return to form.<\/p>\n
49ers HC Backs Up Aiyuk<\/h2>\n
While\u00a0Aiyuk\u2019s start to the year\u00a0hasn\u2019t been ideal, 49ers HC\u00a0Kyle Shanahan\u00a0is not worried. Coming up to the Week 4 clash against New England, Shanahan backed up his receiver in response to a question about his ability to separate from defenders.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe played a lot of zone coverage here in the last couple weeks. Usually when it\u2019s zone there\u2019s not many people around the guys, there\u2019s just people underneath. It\u2019s about throwing over people. And he\u2019s done a good job in man-coverage too,\u201d\u00a0Shanahan said\u00a0on September 25.<\/p>\n

There was also a moment recently where Aiyuk wore the wrong shorts to practice. Reporters filmed Aiyuk being reprimanded by Shanahan and then looking frustrated. However, Shanahan once again stood by his receiver by saying he gets where\u00a0Aiyuk is coming from.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat stuff happens,\u201d\u00a0Shanahan said. \u201cI didn\u2019t see what he threw\u2026 I hate some of the clothes I gotta wear out there also \u2014 it is what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n
