According to an August post from the Freemans, Max was in the pediatric ICU for eight days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_16dbupz-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_adx5s1xxd\">\u201cMax still has a long road ahead of him to regain his strength and relearn how to walk. While recovery may take up to several years, most people are able to walk again six months after symptoms first began. Some people may have lasting effects, such as weakness, numbness or fatigue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_16dbupz-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_rtfrnkpz3\">Freeman had to miss some of the baseball season in order to be with his family. His return to the field was emotional, and he received a\u00a0standing ovation\u00a0when he walked onto the field. The father of three tearfully told\u00a0<em>ESPN<\/em>\u00a0said that it \u201cmeans a lot\u201d to see how his team rallied around him.
