The\u00a0Miami Dolphins\u2019 struggling offense has overshadowed three solid defensive performances under first-year coordinator Anthony Weaver. The Dolphins defense has allowed just one second-half touchdown this season and ranks No. 9 allowing only\u00a0three passing touchdowns through three weeks.<\/p>\n

Miami\u2019s run defense ranks No. 12,\u00a0allowing 112 yards per game, though the coaching staff sees room for improvement in containing the ground game.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot good enough,\u201d Weaver said when asked about the containing the run on Friday. \u201dUltimately, there\u2019s no fingers to blame; it\u2019s just a collective effort about cleaning it up and making sure we\u2019re setting the edge, making sure we\u2019re building the wall on the inside with our front and our backers and ultimately, making sure we get these backs on the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n

Second-year running back Zach Charbonnet averaged 5.1 yards on 18 carries in Seattle\u2019s 24-3 win over Miami last week. Similarly,\u00a0James Cook gashed the Dolphins for 78 yards and two touchdowns\u00a0on just 11 carries during Buffalo\u2019s Week 2 victory. Weaver\u2019s defense has allowed five rushing touchdowns,\u00a0ranking third-highest in the league.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe last thing we want to continually allow offenses to do is run the ball, particularly in the end zone \u2013 let\u2019s make them throw it in,\u201d Weaver explained. \u201cSo right now, when we get down in the red zone, we\u2019re not making that happen.
