The Boston Red Sox could have a new third baseman next season.<\/p>\n

No, Rafael Devers isn\u2019t getting traded (unless Craig Breslow goes wild), but Devers could be\u00a0moving to DH\u00a0after a 2024 that was awfully unkind to his shoulders.<\/p>\n

Devers\u2019s departure from the corner infield into a designated hitter role \u2014 besides potentially pushing Masataka Yoshida out of Boston \u2014\u00a0 would create an interesting opportunity for the Red Sox.<\/p>\n

With the need for a righty bat in mind, Breslow could go after the Houston Astros’ Alex Bregman, but a cheaper move at third base (and perhaps a more rewarding one in the long run) might be to insert one of Boston\u2019s stud prospects into the position on Opening Day.<\/p>\n

Could\u00a0Kristian Campbell\u00a0get the call? It\u2019s not out of the question, especially considering a brand\u00a0new quote\u00a0from Breslow talking about Campbell\u2019s comfort at third base, per Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s kind of hard to forecast (what position Campbell will play) because wherever we\u2019ve put him, he\u2019s excelled,\u201d Breslow said. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t want to diminish the possibility he can play anywhere on the field. \u2026 He\u2019s gotten some reps at third base, and he\u2019s looked comfortable there. Shortstop, the mechanics are a little bit unorthodox, but at the end of the day, he\u2019s converting ground balls into outs and that\u2019s what we care about.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Red Sox are also expected to debut Roman Anthony (and possibly Kyle Teel) on the big league roster in 2025.<\/p>\n
