missed some pitches, which go along with the ebb and flow of a season of being a hitter,\u201d Boone said on Wednesday, before the\u00a0Yankees fell to the Orioles, 9-7, in The Bronx. \u201cYou foul some pitches off that maybe you normally are driving. But nothing overly concerning.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"piano-container\">\n<div id=\"piano-paywall\" class=\"piano-container--inner\">\n<p>It has been a difficult September for Wells, who has a slash line of .123\/.194\/.215 with a .409 OPS after going 0-for-4 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>He has eight hits all month and is 3-for-his-last-38 with 11 strikeouts.<\/p>\n<p>Boone doesn\u2019t believe Wells\u2019 heavy workload is a factor in his struggles.<\/p>\n<p>He has been given days off.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Nestor Cortes headed for MRI on elbow in sudden Yankees playoff worry\" width=\"790\" height=\"444\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LlDZvvtJ3s4?start=1&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Still, he has appeared in 112 games, the most in his professional career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think so. I feel pretty good,\u201d Wells said, when asked about the aforementioned workload. \u201cIt\u2019s just baseball. Just ups and downs. The balls will fall when they need to, hopefully. \u2026 I feel good. Feel like I\u2019m seeing the ball pretty well. It\u2019s just a matter of swinging at the right pitches and not trying to do too much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been a terrific season overall for the rookie catcher, who was a Rookie of the Year candidate until this recent slide.<\/p>\n<div class=\"single__inline-module inline-module inline-module--newsletter aligncenter aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-newsletter\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__inner\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__title-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__icon\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"inline-module__unsubmitted-title-wrapper\">\n<p>He has given the Yankees a power bat in the middle of the lineup to protect Aaron Judge and has performed better defensively than expected.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the Yankees hope the 25-year-old backstop can bounce back and again be a difference-maker in October.<\/p>\n<p>If they do clinch the division soon, Wells could get even more of a breather, since the next game of importance wouldn\u2019t be until the ALDS opener on Oct. 5.<\/p>\n<div class=\"comments-inline-cta\" data-comment-count=\"\" data-prompt=\"What do you think?\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<div class=\"inline-module inline-module--more inline-module--more inline-module--more inline-module--more--thirds\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__inner\">\n<div class=\"single__content entry-content m-bottom \">\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll keep him going regularly. Maybe more inclined to get an extra day or something,\u201d Boone said. \u201cBut if we\u2019re able to clinch, we\u2019ll get several days [to rest]. I\u2019m not too concerned about it.
