Instead of relaxing after winning the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs,\u00a0Travis Kelce\u00a0decided to apply for other jobs \u2014 this time, in Hollywood.<\/p>\n
\u201cGrotesquerie\u201d co-creator and director\u00a0Ryan Murphy\u00a0said in a virtual press conference on Monday that he had a general meeting with Kelce in which the NFL star \u201csaid he was interested in getting into acting.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were talking about his future and what does he want to do after football season, and I was just kind of giving him some fatherly advice,\u201d Murphy said. \u201cI always have a motto in my world and in my work, that a star is a star is a star. It doesn\u2019t matter what field you\u2019re a star in. If you have that charisma, you are going to bring it to whatever you do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Murphy said it was a \u201clovely\u201d meeting, which he ended by telling Kelce, \u201cI\u2019ll keep you in mind, and maybe we\u2019ll come up with something,\u201d to which Kelce pushed back and said, \u201cNo, I want to do it now. I have three months now and I really would love to have anything.\u201d<\/p>\n
At the time, Murphy was just starting pre-production on \u201cGrotesquerie,\u201d his latest limited series for FX about a detective, played by Niecy Nash-Betts, uncovering a string of heinous crimes that feel eerily personal to her. Murphy told Kelce, \u201cI have this one part, and if you\u2019re interested I will specifically write it and tailor it for you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Once Kelce agreed, it was \u201coff to the races,\u201d said Murphy. \u201cThe thing about Travis is, I directed the first episode he did with Niecy, and Niecy and I just instantly loved him and took him by the hand and let him know that he would not, could not fail. And he really was amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Murphy added that Kelce worked with an acting coach for \u201cseveral months\u201d leading up to the shoot, which took place in between football seasons.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe showed up off book. He knew everybody\u2019s lines,\u201d Murphy said. \u201cHe was so professional. He was so committed. He kept saying to me, \u2018I\u2019m real coachable, coach me, coach me.\u2019 So I did, and he ended up being a delight. I would love to continue working with him on this and other things. I cannot say enough about him as a leader. He\u2019s just the kindest, sweetest. \u2026 Everything you think about him is true.\u201d<\/p>\n
