Orlando Magic<\/strong>\u00a0forward Jonathan Isaac \u2014 who was ostensibly\u00a0not an advocate<\/strong>\u00a0for the Black Lives Matter movement in the past \u2014 weighed in on\u00a0Miami Dolphins<\/strong>\u00a0wide receiver Tyreek Hill getting dragged out of his car and detained on Sept. 8.<\/p>\n \u201cAll love to Hill, thank God the situation ended peacefully\u2026 but this should be shown to every black boy on how not to act when being pulled over, respectfully \ud83d\ude4f\ud83c\udffd,\u201d Isaac\u2019s post on X\u00a0reads<\/strong>. \u201cIt\u2019s immature as black men to put our lives in the hands of officers in this way! Especially when you\u2019re of his caliber. Neither side has an obligation to be nice\u2026 but 9.99 times out of 10 you gone get what you give with LE. especially when you\u2019re being pulled over for a valid reason\u2026 That\u2019s fair\u2026 There are unjust exceptions\/escalations of course \ud83d\ude4f\ud83c\udffd This wasn\u2019t anyone\u2019s best moment on both sides. A nothing burger imo\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Isaac historically hasn\u2019t been afraid of voicing his opinions, even if some may deem them controversial. He\u00a0explained his rationale<\/strong>\u00a0for not kneeling for the national anthem when many of his peers were during the NBA\u2019s Orlando, Fla. bubble.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s why I decided to stand,\u201d Isaac said. \u201cI had a conversation with my pastor the night before and ultimately said, \u2018Listen, it\u2019s bigger than skin color. It\u2019s the hearts of men that need to be changed, and racism is not the only thing that plagues the hearts of men, but I know that the Gospel changes the hearts of men.\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n \u201cSo, we had a conversation. It was like, \u2018Look, this thing is gonna be crazy. It\u2019s not gonna be something that I just do, and it just blows over. I\u2019m gonna get a lot of backlash and attack for it.\u2019 And he was like, \u2018Look, you may be standing alone in that bubble, but I\u2019m standing right there with you.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The 26-year-old also joked\u00a0that he was toying with the idea of\u00a0wearing Donald Trump\u2019s shoes<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 the Never Surrender High-Top Sneakers, which were priced at $399 at the time of their release \u2014 in an NBA game.<\/p>\n Isaac seemingly hasn\u2019t been able to stay healthy during his NBA career, though he played in most of Orlando\u2019s contests in the 2023-24 regular season. He appeared in 58 of the Magic\u2019s 82 games and averaged 6.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 0.7 steals and 1.2 blocks per contest in a bench role.<\/p>\n Hill implied that the traffic stop could have left him a lot worse for the wear if it weren\u2019t for the fact that he\u2019s a high-profile athlete.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat if I wasn\u2019t Tyreek Hill?\u201d\u00a0pic.twitter.com\/cvFiZ80N1W<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n \u2014 Adam Beasley (@AdamHBeasley)\u00a0September 8, 2024<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Anthony Weaver \u2014 the Dolphins\u2019 defensive coordinator \u2014 gave his two cents on the incident as well, and he suggested that he\u2019s\u00a0relieved his children<\/strong>\u00a0were born light-skinned so that they won\u2019t be racially profiled.<\/p>\n \u201cWeaver said that his wife is of Mexican descent and when his children were born light-skinned, he almost had a \u2018sense of relief\u2019 because they would not have to experience some of the things he has, alluding to profiling,\u201d Joe Schad wrote.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Hill received citations for a seatbelt violation and for speeding at approximately 60 miles per hour.<\/p>\n Tyreek Hill was cited for speeding at a \u201cvisual estimation of 60 mph,\u201d according to his citation. Hill wasn\u2019t merely on the field, either \u2014 he was arguably Miami\u2019s best offensive player, considering he totaled a team-high 130 receiving yards.<\/p>\n The Dolphins managed to pick up a victory in their inaugural game of the season as well, as Miami won by a score of 20-17.
