The\u00a0Dallas Cowboys\u2018 embarrassing 44-19 loss to the\u00a0New Orleans Saints\u00a0on Sunday, September 15, raised more than a few eyebrows, both with fans and those in the media. If franchise quarterback\u00a0Dak Prescott\u00a0is expected to succeed and help lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl, he could likely use additional support on the offense, and one NFL expert is calling for the Cowboys to bring on a certain wide receiver from the\u00a0Carolina Panthers\u00a0to help Prescott.<\/p>\n
In a September 17 feature for Fansided, NFL\u00a0writer and analyst Zach Pressnell says\u00a0he believes Carolina Panthers wide receiver\u00a0Diontae Johnson\u00a0\u201ccould be that guy\u201d to help out Dallas. In the story, he notes that the team\u2019s \u201coffense could use a few more weapons\u201d and that \u201cDak really only has\u00a0CeeDee Lamb\u00a0and a few question marks to work with on offense.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Cowboys front office needs to go out and make a splash in the trade market,\u201d\u00a0he stated. \u201cLuckily for them, there\u2019s a few teams that could be dealing their weapons before the trade deadline.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Pressnell says that\u00a0Adam Thielen\u00a0could also be a fit for the Cowboys, he writes that \u201cJohnson, specifically, makes sense.\u201d Johnson will be a\u00a0free agent next offseason but could also make for a nice trade chip for Carolina.<\/p>\n
Johnson \u201cwas added to the Panthers roster this offseason and his contract expires at the end of the season,\u201d Pressnell added. \u201cThe Cowboys have a ton of extra draft capital that they could use to acquire him.\u201d<\/p>\n
As for stats, Johnson caught 107 passes for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns in 2021. While those numbers are nothing to wink at, Pressnell asserts that \u201cin Dallas, he would excel as the wide receiver two with Dak Prescott throwing to him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIf Dallas wants to be a serious Super Bowl contender this year, they need to go after another weapon,\u201d Pressnell added. \u201cDiontae Johnson could be that guy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Back in March of this year,\u00a0Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report also wrote that he believed Johnson could be a good \u201cget\u201d for the Cowboys. At the time, he noted that, \u201cthe Cowboys have a potential need at wide receiver,\u201d and that has certainly proven to be true judging by the Saints loss.<\/p>\n
Not everyone thinks Johnson will head to the Cowboys. In a September 18 feature for Bleacher Report,\u00a0Kristopher Knox names\u00a0Johnson\u2019s potential suiters as the\u00a0Los Angeles Rams\u00a0and\u00a0New England Patriots.<\/p>\n
\u201cReceiver-needy teams could use Johnson, who\u00a0caught 51 passes for 717 yards and five touchdowns\u00a0as the\u00a0Pittsburgh Steelers\u2018 No. 2 receiver last year,\u201d\u00a0Knox noted\u00a0in the piece. \u201cThe Los Angeles Rams, who now have both\u00a0Kupp\u00a0(ankle) and\u00a0Nacua\u00a0(knee) on the injury list, could be at the forefront of interested teams,\u201d Knox noted. \u201cThe\u00a0New England Patriots may also want to consider pursuing Johnson.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cNew England still lacks reliable receiver depth, but after a 1-1 start\u2014and the Week 2 loss coming in overtime\u2014the Patriots are more competitive than most expected.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
