Patrick Mahomes Sr. didn\u2019t want his DWI arrest in the news.<\/p>\n

The former MLB pitcher,\u00a0who was arrested on a charge of DWI\u00a0for the third time or more in February before the Super Bowl, name-dropped his superstar son, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, multiple times while being handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car, according to new footage of the arrest obtained Friday by TMZ.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan I say one thing?\u201d Mahomes Sr. asked the arresting officer. \u201cMy son is getting ready to play in the f\u2013king Super Bowl, OK? Just listen to me. I am not drunk. I promise you. I\u2019ve had some drinks. But he can\u2019t have this right now. Listen, this can\u2019t happen\u2026 Patrick Mahomes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mahomes Sr. was pulled over for his out-of-date registration after police ran the license plate on his white four-door Genesis in Tyler \u2014 and he was subsequently arrested following a series of field sobriety tests.<\/p>\n

In the footage, Mahomes Sr. explained to the cop that it was the worst possible time for him to be arrested because his son was preparing for the Super Bowl on Feb. 11 \u2014 when the Chiefs beat the 49ers in an overtime thriller, 25-22.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve never had a star here in this area and now we got a chance to be a star and now we going to have a scandal now,\u201d he said. \u201c\u2026 We\u2019re gonna have a scandal for no f\u2013king reason because my registration when he gifted me the car hasn\u2019t gotten in yet, which would probably be in in the next day or two.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the footage, Mahomes Sr. passed an open can of Coors Light in his center console to the cop before he got out of the car.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, here\u2019s my thing, I\u2019m not looking to blow this into any bigger deal than it is, but unfortunately, like you said, I have a job I have to do and I can\u2019t change that just based off of who you are,\u201d the officer said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDude, this is crazy. My son is getting ready to play in the f\u2013king Super Bowl and I\u2019m doing interviews, five or six a day, and then, now, this s\u2013t\u2019s going to be on the news which is going to f\u2013k with him, and it\u2019s probably going to f\u2013k him up,\u201d Mahomes Sr. said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd he probably won\u2019t win the Super Bowl. But that\u2019s fine. If that\u2019s what y\u2019all want to do, that\u2019s good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mahomes Sr. then claimed he wasn\u2019t drunk, \u201cBut I would probably blow over the legal limit. But dude seriously, we don\u2019t have stars from around here.\u201d<\/p>\n

He repeatedly told the officer he could have someone \u201ccome get me,\u201d but they said they had a job to do \u2014 which ended with him at a local jail.<\/p>\n

Mahomes Sr., who had a BAC of .23, was released hours after the arrest, according to TMZ.<\/p>\n

He did make it to the Super Bowl in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

Mahomes Sr. was charged with a\u00a0felony count of DWI\u00a0third or more and then received a five-year probation sentence after\u00a0reaching a deal\u00a0with prosecutors in August.<\/p>\n

The probation for the former Mets pitcher, who received his second DWI charge in 2018, reportedly includes \u201cintense\u201d supervision for the first year.<\/p>\n

Mahomes Sr. was required to serve 10 days in jail and continue attending AA meetings,\u00a0according to KLTV.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur client is now living a sober life, and we believe that the steps he has taken to better his life helped us achieve a plea recommendation for probation,\u201d Mahomes Sr.\u2019s attorney, Joseph D. Murphy, said at the time.<\/p>\n

Mahomes Sr. called the arrest\u00a0eye-opening.<\/p>\n

He also said he\u00a0celebrated six months of sobriety\u00a0in an\u00a0Instagram post\u00a0in August, in which he thanked his wife, Trisha, family and friends.<\/p>\n
