Red Sox manager\u00a0Alex Cora will not face suspension\u00a0for comments he made on Sunday regarding Boston potentially throwing at Yankees slugger\u00a0Aaron Judge, Boston beat writer Chris Cotillo\u00a0first reported.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters before the Yankees and Red Sox met for their weekend series finale at Yankee Stadium, Cora was asked if the drama from the day before\u00a0would carry over\u00a0to that afternoon’s game.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was closed [Saturday] around the sixth inning,\u201d Cora said. \u201cWe had our chance. Didn\u2019t happen. We have to move on. That\u2019s it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cora seemed to be referring to Boston reliever\u00a0Brayan Bello throwing behind Judge’s legs\u00a0in the sixth inning the day before. The pitch missed the Yankee captain and the Red Sox didn’t appear to throw at him again.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlaying this game for a while, things like that happen,\u201d Judge said. \u201cI know they were upset that three of there guys got hit that day. They\u2019re just protecting their players. Something\u2019s gotta happen. That\u2019s the way this game gets policed and it\u2019s been policed for 100 years. The biggest thing is just don\u2019t miss when you do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Red Sox manager has since said that he spoke with Judge and their conversation was \u201cprofessional.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Yankees won 5-2 on Sunday, taking three out of four from their rivals and delivering a major blow to Boston’s playoff hopes. Before the Yankees headed west to face the Seattle Mariners, New York manager Aaron Boone seemed to fire back at Cora.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not allowed,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s for somebody else to deal with. We\u2019re finished playing with them for now. We\u2019re on to Seattle. Obviously you can\u2019t do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ongoing battle between Red Sox star\u00a0Rafael Devers<\/a>\u00a0and Yankees ace Gerrit Cole<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Saturday brouhaha came as a result of\u00a0Yankees ace Gerrit Cole hitting Rafael Devers in the first inning. Cole then intentionally walked Devers in the fourth, which seemed to clinch for Cora that Cole threw at his star intentionally.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe doesn\u2019t want to face him,\u201d Cora said after the game. \u201cThat’s the bottom line. You know, he told us with the intentional walk that the first at-bat, he hit him [on purpose]. They can say whatever they want. The intentional walk [made it] loud and clear that he didn\u2019t want to face him. So the second pitch of the game against Raffy, you see it. I\u2019m not going to back off. It was intentional.\u201d<\/p>\n

Devers has owned Cole in his career, hitting .350 off the reigning AL Cy Young winner in 40 career at bats. Eight of his 14 hits off Cole have been home runs.<\/p>\n

As one would expect, Cole\u00a0denied that he threw\u00a0at Devers purposely.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn’t throw at Devers in the first inning,\u201d he said. \u201cHe can believe what he wants to believe. I didn’t hit him on purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Devers’ part, he seemed to relish the space he occupies in Cole’s head.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know how he feels about me, and that\u2019s something that makes me proud and happy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
