Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs improved to 5-0 after a 26-13 home win over the New Orleans Saints on “Monday Night Football.”
The victory pulled them even with the Minnesota Vikings as the NFL’s two remaining undefeated teams in 2024.
Mahomes finished the game having completed 28-of-39 passes for a season-high 331 yards and an interception and has only thrown six touchdowns through five games.
With just over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Mahomes instead showed off what he can do with his legs. The 29-year-old superstar quarterback scrambled to his left and went airborne with a head-first dive to pick up an important first down on third-and-9.
The highlight reel effort continued an 11-play drive that milked over six minutes off the clock and ended in a field goal, extending the Chiefs’ lead to 13 points.
The NFL’s official X account posted a slow-motion replay video of the scramble, which drew the attention of Jason Kelce, who immediately gave the three-time Super Bowl champion a new two-word nickname.
“Air Mahomes,” Kelce commented two minutes later.
Kelce’s brother, Travis, also finished the game with a season-best nine receptions on a team-leading 10 targets.
Next up for Kansas City is an early but much-needed bye in Week 6.
They’ll hit the road in Week 7 to face the San Francisco 49ers, who were upset at home by the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
