Jones, who died at the age of 40 earlier this year in New Orleans, played nine NFL seasons with five teams as both a wide receiver and a kick return specialist. According to TMZ, hypertensive cardiovascular disease – heart disease caused by long-term high blood pressure – was listed as the cause of death by the medical examiner.
Jones helped lead the Ravens to victory in Super Bowl LVII, scoring three touchdowns highlighted by a 108-yard kickoff return.
Jones’s mother and son stood on the 12-yard line to pay homage to his number with the Ravens as the duo got a standing ovation. Former Ravens teammates of his took to the field to hug the family members while “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth played.
In 2017, Jones signed a one-day contract with the Ravens so he could retire as a member of the team.
